Aakash Tablet Surpasses iPad Sales Record: 1.4 Million Booked

The low-cost Indian tablet known as the Aakash, which which I reviewed last year, is finally shipping.
The $50 Android tablet has just hit a huge milestone with over 14 lakh (1.4 million) bookings in just 2 weeks. This booking is even much higher than the Apple’s iPad that sold around 10 lakh (1 million) units in the first 4 weeks.
Since the demand for this $50 ultra-cheap tablet PC is continuously increasing, Datawind, which produces Aakash Tablet, is planning to set up two more factories in Cochin and Noida to meet the demand.
Two days ago the manufacturer, DataWind, announced that Aakash was sold out. Those disappointed with this news can still pre-book UbiSlate, upgraded version of Aakash, through its official website at Rs 2,999 which is just Rs 499 more than the original version.
