A lot of videos and movies online are now encoded and made available in a format with extension .mkv (matroska video) format. This is mainly because of the fact that .mkv videos are smaller in size but offer a better quality. Hence you will find all popular movie etc uploaders using this format.

But, the only problem is that they can easily get corrupted or damages either while downloading, or moving the files within your hard drive.  Only VLC media player can run the files, but there was no solution to repair such damaged files.
