3 Best Compass Apps For iPhone
By: Karan Goel | 7th April 2010
Lost out there, with an iPhone in your pocket? Maybe GPS can get you to the right track. But, there aren’t enough GPS apps in the Apple App store – and not even one is free.
But surprisingly, there are a lot of Compass apps available for free. Here’s how Wikipedia defines a compass:
A compass is any magnetically sensitive device capable of indicating the direction of the magnetic north of a planet’s magnetosphere.
So basically, you can find the north direction (and hence other directions) by using a compass. So, here are the 3 Compass apps for your iPhone.
City Compass

City Compass uses information provided by your iPhone to locate cities closest to you and to show distances and general directions. If your iPhone detects that you are moving, the direction of movement is indicated with a gray beam.
Compass for 3G

As with all compasses, Compass for 3G works best if you walk in a straight line.
This has a nice stop/start function, but it did take quite a while for it to update. It is a keeper because it has a nice Google map button, so you can see where you are on the map.
Digital Compass Free

Digital Compass Free is a cool app, because it’s both a compass and a GPS. It is refreshing because of its digital display. The map feature is also really handy!

For a cool new compass app you might want to look at the "Body Compass". This app will alert you each time you're pointing north so you never have to look at your device to orient yourself. It also has satellite maps that rotate based on your orientation… very cool!!
