Twitter, started as a micro-blog, is now more or less being used as real-time news feeder. The magnitude of the content being posted on the site cannot be defined. Whatever that happens in the world, and that doesn’t :), is first talked about on Twitter.
But, with so much information, it becomes difficult to sort out what you need – based on a topic or popularity. In this article, we’ll take a look at search engines for Twitter that display the most popular stories by the number of retweets or favourites it receives.

Of the crowd of tons of Twitter search sites, the most popular and influential one is TweetMeme. Stories on TweetMeme can be browsed by the most popular from all categories in the past 24 hours, the past 7 days, or by specific categories including Entertainment, Comedy, Gaming, and Technology amongst others.

Another method of tracking popularity on Twitter is keeping track of how many favourites any given tweet has. Favstar does just that.
